“Glamping” – glamorous camping – combines the best of a comfortable hotel stay with the adventure of an outdoorsy retreat. What’s not to love about that? Here, five places to test the fancy waters.
Hidden away in New York’s Adirondack Forest Preserve, Camp Orenda’s five canvas “cabins” come with comfy beds, fresh linens, and wood-burning stoves during the spring and fall months. It’s an all-inclusive stay with farm-to-table meals cooked up fireside by owner David Webb and served al fresco. The campsite is plenty plush, but the real fun comes off the beaten path with free kayaking, canoeing, hiking and fishing excursions. They’ll even customize a hiking trip based on your skill level, or you can join one of several off-site activities like rock-climbing and zip lining.
